Sample feng shui interior coordination combined with BTB & compass style①
Hello, this is Ai Johnson - lifestyle designer and NYS certified feng shui interior design teacher.
Today I will share one of the examples of my feng shui interior consultation with the same floor plan that I used in my previous article How I review my client's home by using BTB (western style feng shui).
One of the charms of this client's studio apartment is that she can see beautiful view of East River that runs along between Manhattan and Queens.

Judging from her five element, which is "Wood" element, it is very good for her to live near the water.
(By Eight Element Method that I innovated, she is "Tree".)
As I learn about the condominium building, I found out that this is also "Wood" element building, so I thought that she should be living here so comfortably.
This chart is telling us that "Wood people" / "Wood home" is being supported by "Water" energy. (This is considered as a generating interaction or creative cycle.)
*Interestingly my husband is also "Wood person". He used to tell me that he had wanted to live near the water until we found our current apartment, which is located by the ocean.
Now, let me explain how I applied arrangements step by step with this client's apartment floor plan.
Look at this.
Correction:SE→NW
First, there are the entrance door and the window aligned straight. (①)
Second, you can see the bathroom very near the entrance door. (②)
This layout is very common in the US but it is not favorable layout from feng shui perspective. I will share some of the remedies for this kind of situation.
(All the remedies I introduce here are arranged specifically for this client, and it does not mean that other people can get the same benefit with the same arrangement.)
Remedies:
●Place a gem stone ② which is associated with the bathroom in this location to prevent chi (energy) from being drained by the toilet water.
Place another gem stone which is associated with the kitchen in this location.
→This area is "Love and Marriage" section in pink from BTB perspective, so rose quartz shall be placed.
●Instal a fringe curtain ③ in the hallway to prevent chi from running fast straign through the living area from the entrance door to the window. →Slow down chi flow.
In the same place, hang a crystal ball to balance chi flow.
●Move the plant, which was originally located by West side wall, to the location ④ to help chi generate in the living room area.
●Sofa & TV set were originally located in opposite way, but now they are place as ⑤&⑥ because;
(1)The previous furniture location forced the client to face to West, which is the most unfavorable direction for her. So by flipping them, she can now face to East, which is one of the most favorable directions for her to receive good energy.
(2)This current furniture location ⑤⑥ allows the client to enjoy the water view of East River and she as a Wood person can get energized by Water energy.
●Place a round glass table ⑥ instead of a big black color square stool so that chi can flow smoothly.
Also add a round stool which can be used as an extra seat or table when she has a guest.
Round designed items can help chi flow smoother.
●Display framed art of lovers painted by Chagall on the wall behind the sofa ⑦, because this area is considered to be "Creativity" section in white according to BTB - it is an affirmation of " creating love".
●Place a pink rug ⑧ to add more feminine energy because the original interior taste was very masculine with dark color scheme.
●Change her head facing direction from West to South in the bedding area ⑨ →Originally the client slept with her head facing to West, one of the unfavorable direction for her.
You may find some articles online saying that " it is not good to sleep with head facing South." " Sleeping with head facing to North is the best. ", but actually it varies depending on each individuals.
In this client case, the following three reasons made me decide to choose South;
1) South is the best direction for her , 2) Wanted to avoid sleeping with head facing to North, where the bathroom is located because the bathroom can drain her energy, and 3) Wanted to avoid sleeping to East because there is a hallway where chi flow is busy.
Adding a head board to protect the client's head and hanging dividing panels around the bed to make a private bedding area are suggested too.
They are only some parts of consulting examples for this client.
Right after the consultation, the client did almost all the suggestions I made. She sent me a message saying, "I really feel the difference of the energy flow and I feel more comfortable in this room than before."
Currently she is finishing up some minor project. I am looking forward to see the final.
